The following was emailed by Eberwhite Principal Bill Harris on Oct 1, 2019 to a list of Eberwhite Elementary ‘alumni’. In case you missed this email, I’ve copied it below – and if you can’t volunteer your time – please consider donating to support rebuilding of this great community resource: https://eberwhiteplayground.causevox.com
Both of our children went to Eberwhite, and like so many of our neighbors, we have fond memories of the old playground – now it’s time to help the next generation of students…
Hello Eberwhite Alumni and Friends,
As you may have already heard, this past June Eberwhite playground structures were taken down because they were deemed no longer safe and meeting current standards. The Eberwhite community pulled together and raised close to $300,000 (including the $100,00 from AAPS) to rebuild one of the structures on the east side playground. You can see more about the legacy of the playground and this effort here:
https://eberwhiteplayground.causevox.com.
Thank you to all of you who’ve contributed to this effort!
Now the real work begins! October 15-20 we’ll actually build the playground. All hands on deck… just like how the Eberwhite community built it in 1990. And just like the original structures, they will provide decades of memories for Eberwhite students and the community. Additionally, this playground structure exceeds ADA standards so all kids can enjoy it.
Over six days, we’ll have three shifts a day, from 8:00 a.m. until 8:000p.m. We are looking for skilled and unskilled volunteers alike, to help out and we need you to be a part of this special event! There is job for everyone and everyone is invited — work groups, social groups, faith community groups, etc.! We’ll even feed you! You can find our sign up here http://bit.ly/EBWplayground. (Note: there are tabs at the top for each day)
If you can’t donate your time, consider donating your tools. The majority of the tools we’ll use, from tape measurers to circular saws, will be community-loaned. The tools will be tracked with barcodes and locked up when not in use. They’ll be returned promptly after the playground is completed on October 20 with new blades, sanding pads, bits, etc. We especially need impact drivers if you have one to loan. If you have access to large equipment such as Bobcats, cranes, or tele-handlers, we could use those as well. The tool donation form can be found here https://forms.gle/3huv5yaVxcWfoth16
Please share this email with other Eberwhite alums and their families, as well as anyone else you know who may wish to participate. We need to get the word out to as many people as possible. Don’t hesitate to contact me at eberwhiteplayground@gmail.com if you have questions. This project is going to bring out the best in the whole Eberwhite community and I hope you are able to be part of it.
Sincerely,
Bill Harris
