The following update was emailed on Aug 26, 2019 by Chris Wall, Project Manager for the City of Ann Arbor. For any questions or concerns with this project (or to be added to his email list of construction updates), he can be contacted at 734-794-6410 ext 43661 or by email at cwall@a2gov.org
This is a busy and important week. The contractor is focused on wrapping up road and sidewalk work on Hoover Avenue and Greene Street (south of Hoover). The following work by the contractor is planned for this week and is dependent on weather (which looks like there might be rain extending into Tuesday):
- Paving Hoover Avenue & Greene Street – base and leveling asphalt layers to be installed today
- Finish sidewalk work – @ Greene/Hoover, @ train tracks, @ Division/Hoover, and @ State/Hoover
There are no anticipated water main shutdowns this week.
Pedestrian detours have been installed and will be monitored to route traffic around the sidewalk closures at the Hoover Avenue & Greene and adjacent intersections. The primary pedestrian detour route consists of Greene (south of Hoover) to Keech, Keech to Main, Main to Hill, Hill to Packard, Packard to State, and State to Hoover. If you or a friend needs help navigating the sidewalks and related detours along Hoover this week, please call our inspector, Jason at 734-771-3926, for assistance.
Greene Street, north of Kipke to south of Hoover, continues to be closed for road work. Traffic is being detoured via Main Street to Hill Street route.
The State Street & Hoover intersection closure continues to be implemented for work in the intersection. The southbound State Street detour will be routed south on Packard, west on East Stadium Blvd, south on Industrial Pkwy, west on Stimson and back to State Street. The northbound detour will route east on Stimson, north on Industrial Pkwy, east on Stadium Blvd, north on Packard, and back to State Street. The State Street closure is scheduled to be removed by end of day on Thursday, August 29th.
On-street parking is still restricted on portions of E. Davis, Brown, Greene, Division, Mary, and Sybil to facilitate construction and traffic circulation. No Parking signs are posted in those affected road sections.
Mail should continue to be delivered throughout the duration of the project. As well, trash pickup will continue as scheduled. Please let us know if you experience disruptions on either.
The US Postal Service (USPS) collection blue box at the southeast corner of Hoover & Greene has been temporarily removed by the USPS to allow for sidewalk construction. Nearby collection boxes include 500 Miller Avenue, 1400 Edgewood Avenue, and 1703 Spring Street. The USPS informed us that they were reviewing the location for this box and may adjust it pending their research. We requested updates on this and will pass them along as they are provided.
