The following construction notice was circulated July 15, 2020 to affected property owners/residents along/near South Blvd regarding water main construction scheduled to begin July 27th.
I have copied the text of the letter below, as well as an image of the original letter.
As the letter states, to receive email updates from the City about this project, please email Theresa Bridges at tbridges@a2gov.org
Construction work on South Boulevard is scheduled to begin the week of July 27, 2020.
The Project includes replacement of an old water main with a new, larger water main, and repaving over the water main trench. The project is expected to take seven weeks to complete. Total street resurfacing is not included in this project and may be scheduled in the future. Please note that the City’s Forestry Department will be trimming trees next week in preparation for the construction to begin on July 27.
Water Service:
Water service will be maintained during construction, except for brief periods when the new water main is tied into the existing main, and when house services are transferred to the new main. Prior to any planned water service interruption, you will receive an orange door-hanger at least a day in advance.
Due to the need for the City to open and close water main valves in the vicinity of the project, it is normal for some sediment in the water mains to be disturbed. As a result, you may observe that your water appears more cloudy or rusty. While undesirable, the sediment is not harmful, and can be cleared by running cold water for several minutes. It is recommended that you run water from a basement faucet, or the lowest location in your residence.
Traffic, Parking and Access on South Boulevard:
Local access for vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be maintained on South Boulevard. NO PARKING signs will be posted on the street to allow room for construction access and operations. Access to driveways will be maintained except for periods when the water main construction work is in the immediate vicinity of the driveway.
During the water main installation at the intersection of South Boulevard and Packard Street, there will be limited access to South Boulevard during working hours for approximately 1-2 weeks starting mid-August. Residents on South Boulevard will receive notification with more information delivered to the door beforehand.
During the pavement work on South Boulevard as well as Packard Street, there will be limited access to South Boulevard and driveways (again during working hours only), and residents will receive notification beforehand.
Trash, recycle and compost collection, emergency vehicle access, and mail delivery will be maintained throughout the project.
General Information:
The work on this project will be performed by E.T. Mackenzie of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and will be inspected by the Stantec, the City’s consultant.
Normal work hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday thru Saturday. Contractor operations beyond those hours, or on Sunday, would only be allowed by the City if there is critical work that needs to be completed outside of normal work times.
The construction work unavoidably generates dust and noise, as well as inconveniences. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during the project.
Please email me at tbridges@a2gov.org if you would like to be on the South Boulevard construction updates email distribution list. You can expect 1 or 2 emails per week with project status information, so you can know what to expect during the week.
